IACI scores voting records of legislators on business issues
Twenty-three Idaho legislators – 13 in the House and 10 in the Senate – produced perfect voting records this session on the issues of most importance to Idaho’s business community, according to a press release from the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry.
Tops in the Senate on 20 votes were senators Kent Bailey (R-Hayden), Brad Little (R-Emmett), Patti Anne Lodge (R-Huston), and Joe Stegner (R-Lewiston). Others with perfect marks in the Senate were (on 19 votes) Hal Bunderson (R-Meridian), Dean Cameron (R-Rupert), Brent Hill (R-Rexburg), and Sheila Sorensen (R-Boise). With 18 votes was Stan Williams (R-Pingree), with Cecil Ingram (R-Boise) at 17 pro-business votes.
Perfect on 20 votes in the House were representatives Jack Barraclough (R-Idaho Falls), Gary Collins (R-Nampa), Frances Field (R-Grand View), Ann Rydalch (R-Idaho Falls), and Kathy Skippen (R-Emmett). With 100 percent on 19 votes in the House were Scott Bedke (R-Oakley), John Campbell (R-Sandpoint), Kathie Garrett (R-Boise), and Dennis Lake (R-Blackfoot), while Dolores Crow (R-Nampa) was perfect on 18 votes, as were Lee Gagner (R-Idaho Falls) and Rich Wills (R-Glenns Ferry) on 17 votes. Speaker of the House Bruce Newcomb (R-Burley) had 11 of 11.
IACI’s 2004 legislative voting record is based on 20 issues in each body that are representative of the business community’s broad range of concerns on public policy issues, said the release. The list includes six business issues, seven tax issues, three education issues, three general government issues, two environmental issues, and one unemployment insurance issue.
The Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry is a statewide business lobbying association with approximately 300 members, representing all kinds and all sizes of Idaho businesses.
FUNDSY campaign gets donation from Albertson fund
This year’s FUNDSY campaign received a significant contribution towards its 2004 efforts to help area community organizations.
The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation awarded $100,000 in support of the 2004 FUNDSY campaign. The Treasure Valley YMCA will receive $60,000 for its resident camp at Horsethief Reservoir near Cascade, and the Idaho Foodbank will receive $40,000 towards its expanded warehouse, designed to meet the area’s growing need. “We’re excited to support such important educational efforts,” said Albertson Foundation representative Jamie Skillern.

MPC wins award at government IT expo
Nampa-based MPC Computers recently received the Federal Office Systems Exposition Best New Technology Award in the notebook computer category for its TransPort T3000 model.
Officials at MPC, whose main markets are government agencies and small- and mid-size businesses, were pleased to receive the award from FOSE, one of the largest government trade shows.
The T3000 incorporates an Intel Centrino mobile processor, a biometric fingerprint scanner, and an integrated “smart card” reader for identification cards soon to be mandated in government agencies.
Treasure Valley Engineers expands offices to Boise
Treasure Valley Engineers Inc. has expanded its offices to downtown Boise at 499 Main St.
“Being located in the Belgravia Building on Fifth and Main provides not only a great service location to our Boise clientele but also allows great access to both the City of Boise and the Ada County Development Services departments,” said Art Schultz, Treasure Valley Engineers Inc. president.
TVEI, a full service civil / structural engineering and land surveying firm, will continue design and administrative operations from its Nampa office near the Idaho Center.
Impact directory wins top honors
The Impact Mountain Home Telephone Directory won top honors for books with a circulation of less than 20,000 copies at the annual Association of Directory Publishers Gold Book Awards Ceremony held during the ADP convention in Austin, Texas recently.
According to a press release, books are judged by the association’s 163 member publishers, who represent almost every city in the U.S. Judging criteria includes design, features, market penetration, and quality.
Impact Directories is a Boise-based business. It has been recognized with major awards seven times since the company was established eight years ago. This is the first time the company has taken the top award.
SBA seeks nominees for New Freedom Initiative Awards
U.S. Small Business Administration Administrator Hector V. Barreto has encouraged small businesses that have used innovative strategies to enhance the workplace environment and expand job opportunities for people with disabilities to submit their entries for the 2004 New Freedom Initiative Awards.
Nominees eligible for the award include individuals, businesses (both large and small), and non-profit organizations.

BSU business group
makes contribution to WCA shelters
The Business Professionals of America at Boise State University made a donation of 35 Easter baskets to the women and children residing at the Women’s & Children’s Alliance two shelter sites.
Business Professionals of America is a collegiate organization composed of students interested in pursuing a career in the field of business and is dedicated to furthering study of the American business system.
The WCA is a non-profit agency that provides shelter and support to women and children who are victims of domestic and sexual violence.
