The Idaho Business Review’s annual Accomplished Under 40 program, which culminated this year with an awards luncheon June 22 at the Boise Centre on the Grove, has quickly become a standard of success for the state’s young professionals. Most winners list it among their accomplishments on their resumes as an indication of their personal and professional success.
That’s probably because we don’t take the award lightly. Each nominee must fill out a series of forms listing his or her personal and career accomplishments. We also have them tell us about how they give back to the community through nonprofits or other public service. And we ask for their resumes and letters of recommendation from co-workers and friends.
After we have collected all of the data for each nominee, we ask three previous recipients of the award to read and rank each nominee. Those readings and rankings are done independently, not as a committee.
We then compile the rankings and narrow the list to the top 40.
If you were to look over a list of our previous winners, you’d see state legislators, mayors, television personalities and CEOs of major companies, including those in the high-tech industry.
This year’s class is no different. In the 2007 magazine, published in this week’s Idaho Business Review, you will read about engineers, real estate professionals, bankers and entrepreneurs. And while that’s just a sampling of the professions represented this year, one thing that stands out in all of our winners is that while they are on their roads to success, they have given back either to their profession or their community – or both. And, they’ve often done so while raising a family.
Our hope is that by reading the accomplishments of these 40 individuals, you will be inspired to make a difference.
The winners being recognized in this magazine, and listed below, represent the crème de la crème of the state’s young professionals. Please take the time to get to know each one of them. I have a feeling you’ll hear about them again.
