Canyon County dispatchers tell NewsChannel 7 that a meat packing plant in Wilder has been evacuated this morning due to a chemical leak. Emergency crews are responding to SSI Food Services LLC.

At least 18 people were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for respiratory problems, while others were treated at the scene. Their conditions are not known.

The nature of the leak is under investigation, but the company uses ammonia refrigeration systems.

The plant employs 450 people. It produces beef patties, fajitas, taco meat and more.
