Blackfoot-based manufacturer and industrial contractor Premier Technology kicked off a new partnership with the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) with the donation of a $60,000 glovebox – a piece of equipment specially designed and shielded for handling radioactive materials.
The partnership will enable Premier Technology to work closely with CAES members – which include Idaho’s three public universities, private industry and the Idaho National Laboratory – on projects to develop technology-based workforce and economic development around the state.
“Much of the work at Premier complements the mission of CAES,” Premier Technology President Douglas Sayer said. “Establishing this partnership will help the Center create a core scientific capability that can be applied toward the world’s energy challenges.”
CAES, whose $20.6 million, 55,000-square-foot facility will be officially dedicated in October, is being compared to a new Silicon Valley, bringing together specialists from a multitude of fields for work that’s hoped to result in high-tech and energy spin-off companies.
Premier Technology’s part in the consortium will be to work with faculty, researchers and students to “provide design, engineering and fabrication resources,” according to a company release.
“We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with Premier Technology and its talented workforce,” said CAES Director Harold S. Blackman. “This partnership will help advance the pace at which the Center can transform research into action. We expect Premier’s technical staff to work exceedingly well with the Center, the INL and its partner universities.”
Premier Technology, founded in 1996, employs about 300 people at its one-year-old corporate headquarters in Blackfoot and has an office in Twin Falls focused on manufacturing and designing equipment and systems for the food industry. The Pocatello area operation handles materials processing and large fabrication projects, including work with the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Energy and NASA.
