While the large corporations struggle to stay on their feet, area small business development groups are energized with the demand for entrepreneurs who are pushing to get established.

Matt Creamer director of the Small Business Development Center in Pocatello says small businesses can thrive in the downturn economy. And, finding financing can be arranged to get things moving.

Creamer, speaking with KPVI News 6 said the SBDC works hand-in-hand with the banks to try to make deals for entrepreneurs. “A good deal for the borrower. A good deal for the bank. And a good deal for our organization,m” he said.

But Creamer is not alone is pushing small businesses forward. Only last week, the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce Small Business Resource center opened its doors to show off the resources that they have available. The SBDC offers classes for people interested in starting their own business the second Thursday of each month. The next one will be held Nov. 13.

From coaching and advice to helping secure loans. The Small Business Development Center in Pocatello makes a big difference for many small businesses across eastern Idaho.

At the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce, Erin Best, assistant to the Small Business Success Center, said, “We just did a small business resource orientation, and this is the first time we did evaluations and we got great reviews.”

Of the 20-25 people attending the orientation, all rated the center as having great information on how to open a new business and where to go for help. The center is located in the Boise Chamber offices, 250 S. 5th St. It contains books, brochures, computers, etc. from a wide array of agencies as well as on-site assistance.

“We’re telling them what’s available and pointing them in the right direction and how to use those resources,” Best said.

And, on Oct. 25, a Business Fundamentals Workshop is planned at the University of Idaho Business Center, in Caldwell. The Center for Entrepreneurial and Economic Development is a non-profit business incubation program dedicated to support the early expansion of a small business.  It offers a supportive, cost-effective and professional environment in which a business can grow.

You’ve done everything right. You’ve adopted the concept of “perpetuity” so that the firm now thinks and plans for the long term. You’ve groomed a solid core of good leaders who are trusted, share common values, are committed to the firm’s long-term success and are at least two generations deep. You’ve gradually expanded ownership of [...]
