For a third month in a row, the number of foreclosure starts in Ada and Canyon counties broke records last month. March saw 795 foreclosure starts filed, compared to 720 in February and 602 in January, according to a market report from IdahoDataProviders.com President Charlie Nate.

Nate said he expects the coming months to bring even more foreclosures.

The Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac ban on foreclosures, initiated in November and designed to give the government time to come up with plans to rescue homeowners, ended March 31.

Ada County saw a 5.3 percent rise in the number of foreclosures last month (up from 426 in February to 449 in March), while Canyon County starts rose 17.6 percent (from 294 to 346).

The number of homes listed for short sale continues to climb as well. The report said there were 2,153 short sale listings in March, compared to 2,030 in February and 1,761 in January.
