After three months of constant record-breaking in foreclosure starts, April finally bucked the trend. April’s 712 foreclosure starts made for a 10.4 percent decrease from March in Ada and Canyon counties, according to Charlie Nate, president of IdahoDataProviders.com.

“Now that we have reached what looks like the highest point of 795 starts in March, we should be holding steady around this plateau for some months to come,” Nate said in a release. “This is definitely a good sign that we did not see another record in April, but the 712 filings are still the third highest month in history for the Treasure Valley.”

Ada County filings dropped 5.6 percent (from 449 to 424), while Canyon County filings dropped 16.8 percent (from 346 to 288).

Foreclosure filings in both counties are up substantially from April 2008 levels, when Ada County saw 261 foreclosure filings and Canyon County saw 154.

Meanwhile, Treasure Valley short sale numbers are still on the rise, with 2,391 listed in April, compared to 2,153 in March. A year ago, about 650 properties were in short sale.
