A new program to help encourage new projects in downtown has been laid out byBoise Mayor David Bieter.
The Downtown Development Coordination program is expected to provide developers and business owners with help so they can navigate them the city’s permitting process, Beiter said. A development coordinator will act as a resource for needed information, and coordinate all city services so they are as prompt and efficient as possible.
“It is important that we remove any and all barriers to renewed economic activity,” Bieter said. “This new downtown development coordination is one step in a series of steps that the city is taking to help spark business and create new jobs.”
Boise in recent weeks to implemented a fee deferral pilot program to allow for deferral of commercial building fees and fire, parks and police impact fees until a certificate of occupancy is issued. And, the council passed a local preference ordinance that allows contracts to be awarded to vendors with a local presence.
Angie Brosious will serve as coordinator, expanding her role as project manager for the Department of Planning and Development services. The project coordinator will determine what applications are needed, assist business owners in identifying potential design or code requirement conflicts and facilitate conflict resolution meetings when necessary. The new program is intended to better assist small businesses doing tenant improvements or other projects that may not qualify for the City’s existing project management program.
