Idaho is being touted as one of the states that will lead the way in the economic recovery, according to a report published by the Moody's. The study says Idaho will be one of the first five states to see job growth. Moody's, an economic think-tank, along with msnbc.com and Moody's Economy.com, measured the economic health of 381 metro areas in all 50 states to come up with a list that puts Idaho among the top five states. The Adversity Index claims that employment should spark during the last quarter of this year in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Texas and Idaho.
High-tech industries are one element that will lead the way, according to msnbc.com. A slowdown in technology spending in 2008-09 is pushing companies that need an upgrade to do so in the coming year – 2010. Specific states that have a high concentration in tech-related industries are well-positioned, according to Moody’s, to take advantage of this trend.
The survey explores changes in the four components: employment, housing starts, housing prices and industrial production, each shown as a percentage change from a year earlier. Boise-Nampa employment rate stands at -6.64 percent; Coeur d’Alene is at -0.71 percent; Idaho Falls at -3.2 percent; Lewiston at +1.68 percent; and Pocatello at +.96 percent. (See map)
The study also considers credit management as part of the survey questionnaire, and in such an examination, Idaho is the “worst of the best,” according to examiner.com. It cites the ESTech Corridor with recruiting companies to region and then contrasts that with a first quarter drop in exports.
