Every state loses construction jobs in 2009

by IBR Staff

Published: January 25,2010

For the first time since the start of the economic downturn, every state and the District of Columbia reported losing construction jobs over the past twelve months.
That gives Idaho plenty of company in its construction employment slump. Idaho lost 5,800 jobs, or 13.9 percent, in 2009. It ranked 33rd for construction employment performance.
The nation overall lost 934,000 construction jobs last year, according to an Associated General Contractors analysis of employment data.
“There’s nowhere for construction workers to turn for relief from job losses and hardship,” Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist, said in a release. “Sifting through the monthly variations, it is obvious that construction employment is losing ground almost everywhere.”

Patrick Couwenberg was once a Los Angeles Superior Court justice. He had one very large problem: his resume bore very little resemblance to the truth. Every section of his resume contained lies – about his education, military service (a nonexistent Purple Heart), and work experience (a fictitious job as a covert CIA operative).
