The Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs has announced that Bill Russell, assistant to the president, associate professor of business law and associate dean of the School of Business at Northwest Nazarene University, has been named the recipient for the 2010 Teaching Excellence Award for Region 7, which encompasses western U.S. and northwestern Canada.

ACBSP‘s mission is to develop, promote and recognize best practices that contribute to the continuous improvement of business education because of the importance of producing graduates who are ready to enter the global marketplace. It is the only specialized accrediting body for business schools that presents an award recognizing teaching excellence, according to a release from NNU.

The five established criteria for the selection of recipients are classroom teaching and learning; professional development; institutional versatility; curriculum development; and community commitment.

“Dr. Russell has displayed great creativity in the conduct of classes. He has replaced traditional term-paper writing with community outreach research projects that require students to formulate inquiries and gather data from local businesses – a practice that received a Best Practices Award from the Christian Business Faculty Association,” said Stephen Mountjoy, NNU’s dean of the School of Business.

Russell will be honored, along with the other regional recipients, at the 2010 ACBSP Annual Conference in Los Angeles June 25-28. As a regional recipient, he is now a candidate for the international award, which will be announced at the conference.

ACBSP has more than 730 members in 32 countries and nine regions. NNU is located in Region 7, which represents colleges and universities in 12 Northwestern states of the U.S., as well as northwestern Canadian provinces and territories.

The employees alleged that the hospital’s English-only rule [...]
