The advisory committee formed to develop a Treasure Valley Comprehensive Aquifer Management Plan is slated to hold its first meeting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 at Idaho Department of Fish and Game headquarters, 600 S. Walnut St., Boise. A presentation of a study on future demand for water in southwest Idaho is among items on the agenda.

The Idaho Water Resource Board in fiscal 2008 began developing the framework for the process, which it expects to take four years.

Need for a comprehensive aquifer management plan reflects factors including that the Lower Boise Basin Plan was started but not finished; that there have been significant declines of ground water in some areas and moderate declines in others; and that it appears some water that passes out of the Payette Basin could be used in the Boise Basin above, according to the Idaho Department of Water Resources.

The Idaho Water Resource Board last month selected committee members representing various interests. The members are:

Ron Abromovich, Natural Resources Conservation Service; Michelle Atkinson, Micron Technology; Rex Barrie, Boise River Watermaster District 63; Gayle Batt, Wilder Irrigation District; John Bowling, Idaho Power; Barry Burnell, Idaho Department of Environmental Quality; Russ Dane, Keller Williams Realty; Paul Deveau, Boise Project Board of Control; Dave Dixon, Greeenleaf Farms; Gary Duspiva, Canyon County Planning & Zoning Commission; Rob Fraser, Idaho Wildlife Federation; Michael Fuss, Nampa Public Works; Stephen Goodson, Idaho Governor’s Office; Matt Howard, Bureau of Reclamation; Chris Jones, Trout Unlimited Ted Trueblood chapter; Bill Larson, Treasure Valley Partnership; Lynn McKee, Ada County Soil and Water Conservation District; Greg Nelson, developer; Brian Patton, Idaho Department of Water Resources; Kathy Peter, former U.S. Geological Survey Idaho Water Science Program director; Clinton Pline, Nampa & Meridian Irrigation District board; John Prigge, Sorrento Lactalis wastewater treatment manager; Scott Rhead, United Water Idaho engineering director; Jayson Ronk, Idaho Association of Commerce & Industry; Jeff Scott, Pioneer Irrigation District water superintendent; Gary Shoemaker, Caldwell city water department; Lon Stewart, Sierra Club; Warren Stewart, Meridian Public Works engineering manager; John Thornton, North Ada County Groundwater Users and North Ada County Foothills Association; Rick Ward, Idaho Department of Fish and Game; Paul Woods, Boise City Public Works; and Janice Yerton, Kuna water system operator.
