Boise-based discount grocery chain WinCo Foods will open three new stores ths coming month, bringing the number of stores to 78.

Openings are set for Lacey, Wash. – a 92,500-square-foot store ;  Everett, Wash. - a 100,000-square-foot store ; and in Tracy, Calif. – a 95,000-square-foot store, company spokesman Mike Read said.

“We are always looking for opportunities to grow the business, and we typically look in states where we already operate,” he said. The Western Washington market has been particularly good for WinCo, which also expects good performance in north central California, where the Tracy store has been in the works for a while, he said.

“We do want to keep growing, but we’re doing it at a measured pace given the economy,” he said. Stores open with about 220 employees, he said.

Employee-owned WinCo operates in Idaho, California, Washington, Nevada, Oregon and Utah. The company opened a large distribution center in east Boise in the past year.
