Boise State University has named Mary Rutherford as the director of corporation and foundation relations. She assumed her new position on Aug. 17.

Rutherford’s responsibilities include pursuing and providing administrative review for charitable grant opportunities while also defining Boise State’s overall corporation and foundation relations program.

“This is a critical position in the ongoing and long-term success of Boise State’s development efforts and Mary has an impressive level of expertise in this area,” said Rosemary Reinhardt, interim vice president for university advancement. “She will work to maintain our existing relationships with corporations and foundations as well as identify new partnerships that will generate support for the university’s goals.”

Prior to coming to Boise State, Rutherford was president of the University of Alaska Foundation and chief development officer for the University of Alaska. In that position she was responsible for coordinating fundraising efforts between all campuses within the UA System and managing the UA Foundation. Prior to her position in Alaska, Rutherford was director of development in the College of Business and Economics at University of Idaho and executive director of the Tri-State Hospital Foundation in Clarkston, Wash.

A fifth-generation Idahoan, Rutherford earned a bachelor of science degree in business from Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston and a master of arts in philanthropic studies from Indiana University. She serves on the board of directors of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VIII as well as the organization’s national philanthropy commission.
