Sorensen, Ugrin promoted to partners at Hummel

Gary Sorensen and Gregory Ugrin have each been promoted to the position of partner at Hummel Architects.

Sorensen has been with Hummel for 12 years, is a 1998 graduate of Washington State University, received his architectural license in 2005, and in 2009 became LEED Accredited by the U.S. Green Building Council. His experience with Hummel has included numerous renovations for the federal court system and the GSA across the Northwest. He served as project lead for the recently completed St. Luke’s Magic Valley in Twin Falls.

Ugrin, an award-winning designer, has been with Hummel for 17 years, is a graduate of the University of Idaho and is a licensed architect in Idaho, Montana and Utah. During his tenure, he has been responsible for leading the design effort for a long list of the firm’s award-winning projects such as Idaho State University’s Performing Arts Center in Pocatello. He served as a project designer on St. Luke’s Magic Valley in Twin Falls.

Drake Mechanical promotes Hazzard to service manager

Drake Mechanical has promoted Rick Hazzard, an employee of 11 years, to the position of service department manager. Hazzard brings 18 years in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning trades to the position, along with multiple years experience with boilers and all facets of the plumbing and mechanical industry, from residential to large commercial projects.

He has four years of a plumbing apprenticeship and carries a license in three states. He attended four years of HVAC schooling and carries a current license in the state of Idaho as a journeyman HVAC technician as well.

Tidwell named IIB V.P., branch manager

Rick Tidwell has been appointed vice president and branch manager of Idaho Independent Bank’s Meridian and Eagle branches.

Tidwell has 18 years experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining IIB, he was employed by another local financial institution. Tidwell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Boise State University. He is also a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School. He is a volunteer for various youth sport organizations and is also active in the Meridian Chamber of Commerce.

BSU hires Pene for communications

Matt Pene has been hired as a communications specialist in the Office of Communications and Marketing at Boise State University. He assumed his new duties Oct. 3.

Pene will cover the Division of Research and Economic Development, the College of Engineering and the science units of the College of Arts and Sciences. He comes to Boise State from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he was assistant director of media communications. Previously, he was a general assignment reporter at KCEN-TV in Waco and bureau chief reporter at KWYB-TV in Bozeman, Mont.

Cindy Blackman joins Thornton Oliver Keller

Thornton Oliver Keller Commercial Real Estate has added Cindy Blackman to its staff as human resources manager.

Blackman holds the Senior Professional HR certification and has over 14 years experience in HR roles for both private and public sectors. She has worked for various companies including Power Engineers, where she was the compensation and benefits manager, and was most recently the HR manager for the City of McCall.

Ski academy selects director of recruiting

Olympian and world champion medalist Jonna Mendes has been appointed director of recruiting for the Sun Valley Ski Academy. Her selection supports the development of the newly created snow sport academy, which is a partnership between Community School and the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation.

Mendes, who has been working with U.S. Ski Team’s national alpine development system for the past four years, became a member of the U.S. Alpine Ski Team in 1996 when she was 16 years old and traveled the alpine World Cup circuit for a decade. She was named to the Olympic team for the Nagano, Japan and Salt Lake City Winter Games and became a world championship medalist in 2001 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Bahrenfuss joins Keller Williams Realty Boise

Stacy Bahrenfuss, a real estate sales professional in Boise, has joined the Keller Williams Realty Boise Market Center.

She has an extensive background in real estate and has worked in the industry in the Treasure Valley for more than five years.

Arechiga to work as financial analyst, trader

D.B. Fitzpatrick & Co. Inc., a registered investment advisory firm in Boise, appointed Humberto Arechiga to the position of financial analyst and trader. Arechiga’s responsibilities include assisting the firm’s portfolio managers in conducting economic and financial research, executing trades for equity clients, and reviewing applications for commercial mortgages.

He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Boise State University in 2011. He also earned a minor in applied mathematics and was honored as Outstanding Finance Graduate for the spring semester of 2011. While at Boise State, he participated in the Student Managed Investment Fund, and served as secretary and vice president of the Financial Management Association.
