BSU biz prof awarded Vietnam Medal of Honor

Boise State University College of Business and Economics professor Nancy Napier has been awarded Vietnam’s highest award for contributions to education in the Southeast Asian country. The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training conferred the Medal of Honor on Napier during a special ceremony Nov. 18 in Hanoi, honoring her longtime work there, particularly at the National Economics University.

From 1994-2003, Napier led Boise State’s $8.5 million capacity building project at NEU, which involved delivering Boise State’s MBA to 84 participants, supporting more than 20 Vietnamese faculty members in other master’s and doctoral programs around the world, and helping to establish Vietnam’s first international standard business school in 1997. Many Boise State Vietnam MBA graduates have become leaders in Vietnam’s business and government organizations, as well as within education.

ISBA president elected Pacific Region chair

Members of the National School Boards Association elected Idaho School Boards Association President Dallas Clinger as the Pacific Region chair.

Clinger is trustee serving both the American Falls school board (since 1992) and the executive board of ISBA (since 2002). He’s an active participant in the Idaho Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is currently the chief executive officer and administrator of Power County Hospital in American Falls and serves on the board of directors for the Idaho Hospital Association.

Toastmasters group picks new officers for 2012

Ada Toastmasters Club announced its new slate of officers for the next six months beginning Jan. 1. They include: president, Merilee Marsh; vice president-education, Dana Ard; vice president-membership, Gary Wyke; secretary, Kristen Jahnke; treasurer, Jeremy Peterson; and sergeant-at-arms, Dick Beglinger.

David Groeschl named Idaho’s state forester

David Groeschl has been named Idaho’s state forester by Idaho Department of Lands Director Tom Schultz.

Groeschl brings a wealth of experience to a job that requires a strong understanding of the nuts and bolts of forestry along with the complexities of managing endowment lands within a state dominated by federal public lands.

Groeschl joined the Idaho Department of Lands in 2008 as the Forestry and Fire division administrator. He was appointed as the acting state forester in July of this year. He oversees three bureaus: the Fire Management Bureau, the Forest Management Bureau and the Forestry Assistance Bureau.

Banner Bank promotes Aaron Miller in Boise

Banner Bank has promoted Aaron Miller to vice president / production manager. In this new role, Miller will oversee all consumer real estate lending in eastern Washington, eastern Oregon and Idaho.

Miller has over 14 years of home loan experience, including the last five serving as a loan officer at Banner’s 10th and Bannock branch in Boise. Prior to joining Banner Bank in 2006, he worked for First Horizon Home Loans and D.L. Evans Bank where he developed home loans and oversaw loan officers.

Anna Boone joins Gallatin in Seattle

Anna Boone is joining the Seattle office of Gallatin Public Affairs. She most recently served as the political director for U.S. Congressman Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), where she led his successful 2010 reelection campaign and managed in-state fundraising efforts.

Boone has a strong background in nonprofit events and fundraising. She served as special events manager for Girl Scouts of Western Washington and as public events director for Friends of Seattle.

Gallatin has offices in Portland, Seattle, Spokane, Boise and Helena, Mont.

U.S. Bank in Boise hires Margaret Sato

Margaret Sato has joined U.S. Bank as a commercial relationship manager in Boise. Sato, a 28-year veteran of the banking industry, will manage relationships with commercial customers for U.S. Bank in the Boise market, develop new customer relationships and expand existing customer relationships. She will also provide financial advice to customers.

Sato was previously a vice president and senior commercial lending manager for Syringa Bank.

Idaho Wheat Commission hires Cathy Wilson

The Idaho Wheat Commission has hired Cathy M. Wilson, Ph.D., as director of research collaboration. Wilson will provide oversight for research projects, including annual research review for varietal development, pest control, quality improvement, analyzing and evaluating funding requests and assessing their value.

A native of Magic Valley and educated at universities in Idaho and New Mexico, plant breeding became a career focus when she was hired by Asgrow Seed Co. to work on breeding and pathology in processing tomatoes and onions. Wilson became the World Wide Project Leader for Processing Tomato. She has 20 years of R&D experience in the international vegetable seed industry.
