U of I prof to co-lead national science group
Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar recently appointed University of Idaho College of Natural Resources Professor of Conservation and Science Advisor to the Director of the National Park Service Gary Machlis as co-leader of the Department of the Interior’s Strategic Sciences Group.
The specialized scientific group will develop future scenarios and provide rapid, interdisciplinary scientific assessments during environmental crises or disasters affecting America’s natural resources. The group will help ensure that preparedness, response and recovery efforts undertaken by the Department of the Interior and its bureaus will be guided by the best available science and lessons learned from past events, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and Hurricane Katrina. Machlis led the experimental Department of the Interior Strategic Sciences Working Group during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Bodybuilding.com picks leadership team
Bodybuilding.com has announced its new leaders for 2012: senior vice president of e-commerce, Peter Thornton; vice president of human resources, Raquel Moreno; vice president of marketing, Jennifer Hetherington; vice president of operations, Michael McCabe; and vice president of finance, Ryan Vestal.
Thornton was the former vice president of marketing, e-commerce and merchandise planning at The Territory Ahead and had prior work experience at Harry & David, Coldwater Creek and Xerox.
Moreno spent much of her career in the consumer retail industry at Toys R Us, Target and AT&T Wireless.
Hetherington has been with the company since June of 2010. McCabe began his career at Bodybuilding.com in March of 2006 as the Florida Distribution Center manager. Vestal has been with the company since June of 2008.
Combs promoted to mortgage sales manager
Mike Combs has been promoted to mortgage sales manager at Home Federal Bank. In his new position, Combs will be responsible for the management of all mortgage vendor relationships, and the generation of mortgage referrals through the branch and realtor networks within Home Federal’s Oregon and Idaho markets.
Combs has more than 15 years of bank lending experience. He most recently served as a loan officer for Home Federal Bank and is a member of the Ada County Association of Realtors.
Doyle now Integra enterprise sales engineer
Jerry Doyle has accepted the position of enterprise sales engineer at Integra Telecom in Boise.
An enterprise sales engineer designs networks and network services including voice, commercial grade SIP to multiple systems, commercial grade Internet access, private layer 3 MPLS, private layer 2 networks, fiber optics and over system designs.
Doyle has resided in Boise for the past nine years and brings an extensive 21-year career as a telecommunications engineer to Integra.
Law firm expands staff, hires paralegal O’Tyson
Parsons Behle & Latimer has expanded the paralegal team in its Boise office (formerly Zarian Midgley and Johnson) with the addition of Julie O’Tyson.
O’Tyson brings more than a decade of experience as an intellectual property paralegal. Her extensive background includes management of foreign and domestic intellectual property portfolios for clients and preparing trademark applications and correspondence related to the filing of patents and trademarks. O’Tyson’s work at Parsons Behle & Latimer will focus primarily on trademark prosecution and portfolio maintenance. She was previously employed with Boise-based Dykas, Shaver & Nipper.
DaviesMoore account team adds McGrady
Kallee McGrady has been hired as an account coordinator at DaviesMoore, a Boise-based marketing firm.
McGrady’s duties will include day-to-day task management and coordination for the account services department.
After gaining agency experience through an internship, McGrady graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in advertising from the University of Idaho, where she served as the managing director of the AAF National Student Advertising Competition team.
Kenneth Howell elected to College of Idaho board
Hawley Troxell partner Kenneth Howell has been elected to the College of Idaho’s board of trustees. His four-year term began on Jan. 1. Howell previously served on the College of Idaho’s board of trustees for 14 years, two years of which were served as chairman of the board. Prior to serving on the board, Howell served as president of the College of Idaho National Alumni Association.
During Howell’s past tenure on the board, he was heavily involved in the transition of College of Idaho presidents, a $50 million gift from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, and was involved in many other initiatives.
Murray joins Children’s Home Society board
Children’s Home Society of Idaho, a nonprofit organization that provides emotional and behavioral health care to at-risk children and the families that care for them, has appointed Linda Murray, director of human resources for Intermountain Gas Co., to its board of directors.
An Idaho native, Murray brings a 27-year background in human resources and leadership development to the board. Prior to joining Intermountain Gas in 2007, she was regional human resource manager at Trus Joist Weyerhaeuser, and assistant vice president of corporate benefits at U.S. Bank. She has served on the board of directors for CASA and the March of Dimes, and on the advisory board for the Casey Family Program.
Ada Boys & Girls Clubs names new board
Three new members have joined the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County. Ada County Highway Commissioner Rebecca Arnold, UBS Vice President of Investments Brian Burnett, and Kathleen Lewis, CPA, Lewis Consulting, have joined other members of the board, including board president Shannon Stoeger, Idaho Independent Bank.
The 27-member board is responsible for implementing the Boys & Girls Clubs’ mission of service to youth in the community. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County is a 501(C) 3 nonprofit organization that provides a wide variety of youth development programs conducted by trained, professional staff.
Key programs emphasize academic success, good character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Clubs are located in Garden City, Meridian and Kuna, and serve nearly 4,000 local children each year.
