ISU hires new research and development VP

Idaho State University has hired Howard Grimes as its new vice president for Research and Economic Development, effective Nov. 19.

Grimes most recently worked as vice president for research, dean of the Graduate School, and director of the Center for Environmental Research, Education and Outreach at Washington State University. During his time at WSU, the school increased its grant funding by 85 percent.

Grimes earned his master’s degree in plant pathology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and his doctorate in botany from North Carolina State University. He is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He has published work in areas ranging from molecular biosciences to developing new paradigms for facilitating biotechnology development in the developing world.
