Idaho and many Western states were “inbound” in 2009, United Van Lines reported recently. The moving company handled 1,496 household moves involving Idaho, of which 839 (56.1 percent) were inbound. The West continued to see strong growth, the company said.
In contrast, Atlas Van Lines recently reported that Idaho was an “outbound” state last year, with 432 moves outbound to 346 inbound.
United said the West continued to see strong growth, but Atlas said job losses made Western states less popular than in years past. Earlier, Mayflower reported that 53 percent of its interstate moves were related to new jobs or transfers.
Each company’s experience varies, but representatives of multiple moving companies serving the Boise area recently told the IBR that they are starting to see some positive signs.
