Meridian mayor plans State of City address

Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd’s annual State of the City address is scheduled Feb. 4 at Meridian Middle School, 1507 W. 8th St. She plans to update activities in city departments and present the Legacy Award to a community member.

City departments plan to present informational displays starting at 3:30 p.m. The mayor’s address is expected to start just before 4 p.m.

“Despite our challenging economic times, our community remains solid and we have maintained and improved the services that our citizens have grown to expect,” de Weerd said in an event preview on the City of Meridian Web site. A text of the speech will be posted on the site at 5 p.m. Feb. 4, Meridian officials said in a release.

Nine local restaurants plan to participate in the Taste of Meridian event to follow the mayor’s address.

Tickets are available for $10 and may be purchased at the door, at City Hall, or by calling 489-0529.
