Rathdrum Power earns OSHA safety recognition award

Rathdrum-based Rathdrum Power has earned OSHA recognition for excellence in worker health and safety.

A ceremony was slated Feb. 25 at the plant in Rathdrum in honor of the facility achieving the VPP star, the highest level in OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP).

OSHA’s regional administrator Richard Terrill praised the plant for having not experienced an injury resulting in lost time during the last four years.

Rathdrum Power is a two-stage power generation plant with 20 employees working on a natural gas-powered turbine and a steam turbine. Electricity produced is routed to a transformer in a substation, and the output side of the transformer becomes the property of the Bonneville Power Administration.

Rathdrum Power is a joint venture of Cogentrix Energy Inc., of Charlotte, N.C., and Avista Power, a unit of Spokane-based Avista Corp.
