Interstate rehab begins near Burley

Knife River Inc. of Boise and Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction Co. of Draper, Utah, have begun preliminary work on two portions of Interstate-84 east of Burley.

Knife River’s portion of the project runs between the Burley and Declo interchanges and is valued at $12.8 million. The other portion extends from the Declo interchange to the I-84/I-86 junction and is valued at $9.3 million.

Preliminary work, which began March 29, includes construction of median crossover ramps at several locations along the stretch and should take about four weeks. Reconstruction of 15 miles of the interstate will follow, beginning in May and lasting through September.

The roadwork is being funded with federal (non-stimulus) money.
