Social media conference comes to BSU May 12

A conference exploring the uses and implications of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter will be held at Boise State University May 12.

The event is hosted by BSU’s Communication Graduate Student Association and will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Student Union Simplot Ballroom.

“Social media is changing interpersonal and organizational communication, advertising and public relations, and has implications for ethics and society,” CGSA officer Nick Wynkoop said.

Students in the association will review social media strategies that have been effective for organizations and discuss how social media is changing human communication. They’ll present findings of studies examining trends in the industry.

Cost for the conference is $50 for businesses (all staff), $25 for nonprofit organizations and individuals, and $5 for students. CGSA is looking for a sponsoring organization for the event.

Seating is limited to 100 people. To make reservations or for more information, e-mail CGSA@boisestate.edu.
