Atlantic Tele-Network Inc. has announced it has closed on its purchase of $223 million in assets of the former Alltel Corp. and that the company will be able to continue to use the Alltel name and My Circle service mark.
Alltel was purchased by Verizon Wireless, which had to divest of properties equal to more than 800,000 wireless subscribers in 2008 for $28.1 billion and sell certain properties to ATN in 2009 for $200 million. Atlantic Tele-Network Inc. said April 26 that the purchase was made through a subsidiary, Allied Wireless Communication Corp.
Allied Wireless earlier announced it would locate its headquarters in Little Rock, Ark., where Alltel was based for decades.
The Allied Wireless business will serve nearly 900,000 customers in Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, North Carolina, Ohio and South Carolina, with first-year revenue of about $500 million.
