Two Idaho employers cited as best places to work in healthcare

Pay, time-off policies and other programs have put Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene and Idaho Emergency Physicians in Boise on Modern Healthcare‘s Best Places to Work in Healthcare list.

Modern Healthcare magazine surveyed hospitals on traditional indicators like benefits and on newer areas such as wellness programs, environmental stewardship, and family-friendly policies.

Kootenai has a voluntary turnover rate of just 9 percent, said Kim Anderson, a spokeswoman for the 250-bed hospital. She said 12 percent of the workforce has spent 20 years or more with the organization. Anderson said the average rate of voluntary turnover in organizations similar to Kootenai is 17 percent.

“We have been very intentional in creating a work environment that helps us attract and retain top-notch staff members,” said Dan Klocko, Kootenai’s vice president of human resources.

Idaho Emergency Physicians provides staffing to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Saint Alphonsus Eagle Health Plaza in Eagle, and West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell.

To create its annual list, Modern Healthcare surveys employers and also surveys employees anonymously, the magazine said.
