META, a nonprofit microenterprise program of Mountain States Group Inc., announced it was awarded a one-year $90,000 SBA PRIME (Program for Investment in Micro-entrepreneurs) matching grant. PRIME provides assistance to organizations like META that help low-income entrepreneurs who lack sufficient training and education gain access to capital to establish and expand their small businesses.
“Our new Trolley Square office in downtown Caldwell will allow us to better meet the needs of existing and emerging entrepreneurs in Canyon County,” META Program Director Ron Berning said. “We have hired two highly qualifed bilingual business specialists who will work closely with Spanish- and English-speaking entrepreneurs.”
In the past eight years, META has assisted over 400 emerging and existing entrepreneurs and has approved over 130 microloans in the start-up and expansion of their respective businesses. Primary funding comes from the Office of Refugee Resettlement, with secondary funding from banks, foundations, private companies and individuals. Based on eligibility and funding source, META clients may apply for microloans from $500 to $15,000.
The new Caldwell office is at Trolley Square, 117 S. Ninth Ave., Suite 5.
