Diamond Rental has closed its 12,000-square-foot branch at 627 N. DuPont Ave., Boise. The branch rented party and event supplies.
Rick Rutherford, general manager of the company’s party division, said the location saw progressively lower pricing in a market where demand has declined recently. Revenue in 2010 was down more than 50 percent from 2007, he said.
Conservative spending by corporate customers and lower-ticket transactions in the consumer segment reduced sales, he said.
“Our day-to-day business decreased to a level that we needed to pull back a bit,” said Rutherford, who is based in Salt Lake City and grew up in Boise. The Boise location opened in 2003.
Sales remain fairly steady at Diamond Rental’s Utah facilities, in Ogden, Orem and Salt Lake City, he said. Higher unemployment in the Boise area reduced spending at the Boise location recently, he said. Diamond Rental employed 11 in Boise location when it closed the facility Jan. 6.
“There’s a point where we may be back,” Rutherford said. “In the short term, we decided to step back.”
Diamond continues to pay rent on its space, marketed for sublease through Michener Investments of Boise.
Diamond Rental also operates a tool and equipment division, which does not have an Idaho location.
