E. Idaho businessman is new head of the state Department of Commerce

The governor has appointed an eastern Idaho businessman to head the Idaho Department of Commerce.

Jeff Sayer is expected to start Oct. 3 as agency director.

The governor’s office says Sayer most recently worked in business consulting as a managing partner of the Novayx Group. He was also previously president and chief financial officer for Mountain View Hospital in Idaho Falls.

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter named a temporary head of the Department of Commerce earlier this month after director Don Dietrich stepped down. Dietrich notified Otter last month of his intentions to resign after three years to resume his career in the private sector.

The commerce department has a $30 million budget and more than 50 employees. The agency markets Idaho to business and seeks to create jobs.
