The maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread has informed the state that 78 of its workers in southern Idaho may be laid off in the coming weeks.
The Irving, Texas-based Hostess Brands filed for bankruptcy protection in January and has been working on a reorganization plan that involves layoffs and plant closings across the nation. The company earlier this month mailed notices to all of its 18,500 employees in the U.S.
The Idaho Statesman reports layoffs here could come at facilities in Boise, Nampa, Caldwell, Mountain Home and Twin Falls.
The notice to the state warned of layoffs or plant closures by July 7.
Hostess spokesman Erik Halvorson says that while the company is issuing notices, as required by law, the goal is still to emerge from bankruptcy.
