Sharon L. Allen has been elected to a two-year term as chairwoman of the YMCA’s national board of directors.
Allen began her career with the YMCA three decades ago at the Treasure Valley YMCA in her hometown of Boise. She joined the boards of directors for the Treasure Valley YMCA and the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles before joining the national board in 2007.
Allen recently retired as chairwoman at Deloitte LLP, where she was the highest-ranking woman in the organization, as well as the first and only woman to serve as board chairwoman at a large, private U.S. professional services firm. She is chairwoman of the audit committee for Catalyst, Inc., and vice chairwoman of the board of trustees for the Autry National Center.
Allen has been included in both Forbes’ “The 100 Most Powerful Women in the World” and Directorship magazine’s “The 100 Most Influential People in Corporate Governance” for four consecutive years. Crain’s NY Business called her one of the most powerful businesswomen in New York.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Idaho, where she was also awarded an honorary doctorate in administrative science.
