Mining company gets new COO at year-end

Randy Buffington, senior vice president of Operations at Coeur d’Alene Mines Corporation, will be promoted to senior vice president and chief operating officer effective Jan. 1. Buffington succeeds K. Leon Hardy, who retires at the end of 2012.

Buffington has more than 28 years of experience in the precious metals mining industry. He has worked in senior-level technical and strategic planning, mine startup, operating efficiency and optimization, and safety and environmental leadership.

Buffington previously worked for Barrick Gold Corporation, including as managing director of its Lumwana copper project in Zambia and general manager of its Goldstrike mine complex in Nevada. Before that, he worked for Corminco American and Placer Dome, Inc.
