The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Kaleo Nawahine, a native Hawaiian and president of Performance Systems, Inc., an 8(a) and HUBZone-certified general contractor from Fruitland, SBA’s National Minority Small Business Person of the Year.
Nawahine earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and his master’s degree in engineering management from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After graduation, he worked as a project manager with a manufacturing company in Fruitland. After two years, he was hired as a project manager with a cement and building materials manufacturer.
Nawahine bought into Performance Systems in 2004. The firm earned 8(a) certification in 2005. Performance Systems’ major contracts include Boise Airport projects and construction of the West Boise wastewater treatment plant. The company has 78 employees and also maintains offices in Washington and Hawaii.
