Del Taco coming to the Boise Bench

Del Taco, a Mexican fast food restaurant, will get a second Boise location. Area franchisee Craig Allen plans to build a new 2,285-square-foot, one-story building with a drive through lane on the Bench.

City officials have not yet approved all the necessary permits, so a firm building and opening timeline isn’t known. Allen estimated construction could take four or five months once foundation is set.

“We just like the area,” Allen said about the location, at the intersection of Franklin Road and Orchard Street. The site is now a parking lot that has had temporary vendors and is close to a Fred Meyer and newly opened Dutch Bros. Coffee stand.

Allen is the operator and co-owner of Three Brothers Restaurants, which runs five northwest Del Taco locations, including three in the Treasure Valley. He said the franchisers are looking to expand further and hold the rights to future Del Taco restaurants in southwestern Idaho. A company website said the chain, based in California, is also looking to expand to Idaho Falls.

Allen said he expects the new location to have good traffic, in part because of nearby fast food options like Dutch Bros. and other quick service chains. He said his other Del Taco locations in Idaho all happen to be close to McDonalds. The Bench location has two McDonalds that are a half mile away either direction on Orchard Street.

“That tends to make it more of a destination area,” Allen said. “Everyone’s not going to eat at your location every day or at McDonalds every single day.”

The restaurant will cost $425,000 to build. Stock Construction Management of Boise will construct the building.
