Mayor names Planning and Development services director

Boise Mayor David Bieter has named Derick O’Neill the city’s new director of Planning and Development Services. O’Neill will replace former director Bruce Chatterton.

The appointment requires City Council confirmation. The council will consider the appointment at a special meeting Nov. 6. If confirmed, O’Neill will begin work in December.

O’Neill has worked as CEO and president of the United Way of Treasure Valley for nearly three years. He has notified the United Way Board of Directors that he will accept the city position if confirmed.

O’Neill has 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, working as president and managing partner at O’Neill Enterprises, a Boise-based development firm that has created residential and mixed-use projects including Bown Crossing, River Run and Surprise Valley. He began his career as a commercial real estate leasing agent in Bellevue, Wash., with Colliers MaCauley Nicolls International.

In the public service sector, O’Neill has worked in leadership and advisory positions on the Boise Parks and Recreation Commission, the Boise School District Board of Trustees, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA, the Urban Land Institute District Council, the Building Contractors Association of Southwestern Idaho, and the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce Executive Committee.

O’Neill earned his Bachelor of Science from Santa Clara University in 1989.
