Boise visitors bureau names new leader

John Cohen

John Cohen will be the Boise Convention and Visitors Bureau’s new executive director starting April 1. Cohen formerly led a similar tourism organization in Durango, Colo. and was also previously the director of sales for the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas.

Cohen replaces Bobbie Patterson, who retired in December. He was executive director of the Durango Area Tourism Office for six years before resigning in May 2012.

“John brings a history of proven results in collaborating with partners to increase publicity and revenue stream in a market,” BCVB chairman John Beacham said in a news release. “We’re looking forward to John leading the way in renewing our strategic partnerships with the Boise Metro Chamber, the Boise Centre, the City of Boise, and the Boise Valley as a whole.”

The BCVB promotes Boise and the Treasure Valley as a site for tourism, conventions and other travel. It is funded by lodging tax dollars through the Idaho Travel Council and the Greater Boise Auditorium District. The bureau recently moved to share office space with the Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce.
