David Schmitz is Idaho Medical Association president

Dr. David Schmitz is the Idaho Medical Association’s president for 2013-14.

Schmitz is associate director of rural family medicine at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho. He previously was chief of staff at Benewah Community Hospital and co-founded the St. Maries Volunteer Community Clinic.

Schmitz has served on the IMA board since 2005. He is past president of the Idaho Academy of Family Physicians and serves on the Commission on Education of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He is past president of the Idaho Rural Health Association and serves on the board of trustees of the National Rural health Association. He was recently appointed to the rural health working group of the World Organization of Family Doctors and is chairman of Idaho’s Health Professions Education Council.

Schmitz earned his Doctor of Medicine at the State University of New York-Buffalo and completed his residency at the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho in 1999.
