Valley Wide Cooperative and Valley Co-ops will merge on Sept. 1. This is the 12th merger, acquisition or partnership for Valley Wide since 1998. Valley Wide originally formed as Menan Coop in 1938.
Valley Wide Marketing Manager Eric Holbrook said agricultural providers and cooperatives like Valleywide are in “grow or die” mode, and that more mergers could be in Valley Wide’s future.
“We’re always open for future possibilities,” he said.
Valley, centered in the Magic Valley, was part of one of those previous partnerships, forming Valley Agronomics with Valley Wide and Winfield Solutions, a subsidiary of Land o’ Lakes, in 2007. That agronomy company has 16 locations, 15 of them in Idaho.
The combined cooperative will have its main office in Jerome, with other offices in Rexburg, Rupert and Nampa. The combined company will retain the Valley Wide name, though some of its stores, which include farm and ranch stores and oil and propane distribution, will keep their names. The combined company has more than 500 employees and over 3,000 co-op members and 43 locations in Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
