Major renovations for the Idaho Historical Museum have been delayed as construction bids could not meet the $5.5 million budget set by the Idaho Division of Public Works.

“The bids all came in over budget,” said Kelly Berard, the division’s project manager. “We’re in a holding pattern for a couple months.”

The museum in Julia Davis Park shut down Aug. 4, 2014, for a complete renovation of the interior, a 15,700-square-foot expansion, and demolition of the  entryway and massive jutting exterior wall that came with a 1982 remodel.

The plan had been to start construction in August and finish no later than November 2016.
