A long-time resident of Idaho’s Clearwater Valley, Laughy has guided more than 5,000 heritage travelers in north-central Idaho as an outfitter and worked with Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic. He co-authored Clearwater Country!: The Traveler’s Historical and Recreational Guide with his wife Borg Hendrickson and has been published in High Country News, among other periodicals.
The two co-founded Fighting Goliath – a group opposing the transportation of megaloads of refinery equipment destined for the Canadian oil fields, on Highway 12.
Laughy was a public school and university educator in Alaska; he is an honors graduate of Harvard College and holds a master’s and doctoral degree from the University of Montana.
