Twin Falls introduces online building permit applications

Developers can now apply online for mechanical, electrical and plumbing permits for residential and commercial projects in Twin Falls.

Twin Falls launched the online permit application process Jan. 26 with its City Works PLL Portal.

In coming weeks, the city also plans to add online applications for some structural permits for single-family residential homes, city spokesman Josh Palmer said.

Eventually, developers should be able to apply for all single-family residential building permits online in Twin Falls, Palmer said.

Developers will still need to visit Twin Falls City Hall to apply for commercial structural permits, he said.

The city’s permitting, licensing and land portal will notify customers on mobile devices about inspection updates and when permits have been approved.

“It makes it easier for everyone because the builder can apply for permits from the job site or anywhere else for that matter, and our building department can spend less time facilitating paperwork and more time with customers,” Twin Falls Building Official Jarrod Bordi said in a release.

Twin Falls has also started digital filing and storage of permits and plans to eventually replace the printed plans and paperwork stored in the building department’s basement.

Customers must first create a secure online account with the Building Department to use the online permit application process.
