West Junior High comes in third at annual science bowl

A team of West Junior High ninth-graders came in third at the Western Idaho High School Science Bowl on March 7.

Twenty schools competed on their knowledge of science subjects and concepts at the event. First place went to a team from the Treasure Valley Math and Science Center, and second place went to a team from Boise High School. Riverstone International School won a sportsmanship award.

The science bowl is sponsored by the Micron Foundation and was held at Boise State University. It’s an official regional bowl for the National Science Bowl competition for high school students that is coordinated by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. The regional championship team receives an all-expenses paid trip to compete at the national event held in Washington, D.C. April 28-May 2.
