David Bedford, a truck driver for Republic Services of Boise, has won a Driver of the Year award in the large industrial category from the National Waste & Recycling Association. Bedford was honored June 7 at WasteExpo, a trade show in Las Vegas.
He was chosen from more than 1,000 driver nominations submitted by industry peers from across the country. The recognition is for his exemplary driving record and his commitment to the community. Since 2009, Republic Services drivers have earned this top honor 16 out of 21 times in the large company categories, the company said. Public and private sector drivers are eligible for the award.
Bedford began his driving career in 1981 in Boise. He drives about 600 miles each week, serving about 35 industrial customers and collecting more than 250 tons of waste.
