June marks the 55th anniversary of the first McDonald’s restaurant in the Gem State. The restaurant was built adjacent to today’s modern McDonald’s located at 510 North Orchard Street in Boise. It opened on June 13, 1961 and was the 249th McDonald’s in the country. Today there are 64 McDonald’s throughout Idaho with more than 30 restaurants in the Treasure Valley.

To celebrate the 55th anniversary, longtime-Treasure Valley McDonald’s franchisee owner-operators Dick Darmody and his son Rick Darmody hosted an anniversary celebration bringing together the community, business partners and employees. The lunchtime event, held at the Orchard Street location, included cake and classic cars as well as a donation to the Ronald McDonald House of Idaho.
