“It opens doors to us geographically,” said Eva Fithen, marketing manager of T-O. “We’re in Idaho and Washington, and now we’ll be able to be in Utah and Wyoming.”

The companies will be known together as T-O Engineers within the next six to 12 months, Fithen said. T-O is larger, with more groups and more diversity, while GDA specializes in aviation and surveying, she said. GDA’s aviation group has been around for 65 years, while T-O’s aviation group – which it started in 1988 through the acquisition of Hosac Engineering – recently celebrated its 30th anniversary.

GDA has about 32 employees, while T-O has a little over 100. “No one’s losing their jobs,” Fithen said.

T-O Engineers will maintain its headquarters in Meridian, and will continue to use GDA’s existing Wyoming, Utah, and Boise offices, bringing the company to eight total office locations spread across four western states, the companies said.

A price was not disclosed. T-O Engineers has hired several new people this year.

Deal flow in the engineering sector has declined in recent months, according to The Global Consulting M&A Report by Equiteq Ltd. The group said in its most recent report, for Q4 2017, overall global deal activity in the consulting sector fell by 4 percent from the previous year and declined 1 percent from the previous quarter. In Idaho in January, the Hailey-based POWER Engineers acquired the Zephyr Environmental Corp. of Austin, Texas.
