Idaho State University, which on August 27 said athletic director Jeff Tingey had been placed on leave, now says Tingey has been fired.
School President Kevin Satterlee told the Idaho State Journal that Tingey’s removal does not involve any scandal or violation.
Tingey will receive his $150,000 annual salary until his contract expires in June 2019.
When it announced Tingey had been placed on administrative leave, the school didn’t offer an explanation. Satterlee, who was named ISU’s president on April 5, said the school is looking to change the direction of the athletic department.
Tingey had been the school’s athletic director since 2009.
The school’s football team and men’s basketball team have each had one winning season since Tingey became athletic director.
The school says it will conduct a national search for a new athletic director.
