Torrey Lawrence has been named the provost and executive vice president at the University of Idaho. He has served in this role on an interim basis since April.
Lawrence came to the U of I in 1998 as a faculty member in the Lionel Hampton School of Music. He served as director of athletic bands from 1998-2012, associate director of the School of Music from 2012-13 and director from 2013-17. He served as an associate dean in the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences before moving to the Provost’s Office in 2018 as vice provost for faculty. He was named interim provost and executive vice president earlier this year.
Lawrence received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music performance and wind conducting from the University of Oregon. He also holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University.
As provost and executive vice president, Lawrence will lead the academic mission of the university and, therefore, a broad scope of areas including faculty matters, student success, budget management, strategic planning and academic programs.
