Michael Dean appointed to magistrate bench

The Magistrates Commission for the Fourth Judicial District, comprised of Ada, Boise, Elmore, and Valley counties, appointed attorney Michael Dean to the magistrate bench in Ada County. He will fill an open position previously held by retired Judge Lynnette McHenry. He participated in a merit selection process which included bar surveys and public comments. After narrowing a competitive list of twelve applicants to the top three candidates, the Magistrates Commission conducted public interviews, ultimately selecting him to fill the position.

Dean was born in Alaska and raised in Washington. He completed his undergraduate education at Brigham Young University and received a degree in English. He then earned his law degree from the University of Idaho. His career has been spent in public service. He started as a prosecutor in eastem Idaho in 2002 and moved to the Treasure Valley in 2004. He joined the Boise City Attorney’s Office in 2005, where he prosecuted criminal cases and supervised the prosecution division. In 2020, he transitioned to supervise Boise City’s civil division.
