John Wagner is a nuclear engineer who has demonstrated a natural ability to make strategic decisions that yield dynamic growth. He earned doctorate and master’s degrees from Pennsylvania State University and a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Immediately after school, Wagner began work as an engineer, and over the past 20 years, he has honed his experience managing, researching and leading research and development projects, programs and organizations.
Wagner worked for Oak Ridge National Laboratory for nearly 17 years before accepting a role as chief scientist for Idaho National Laboratory (INL) in 2016. In December 2020, he stepped into his current role as INL’s director, where he continues to guide the site’s nuclear energy strategy.
