Professionalism had a little bit of fun Thursday during Idaho Business Review’s inaugural Top Companies in Treasure Valley program. Employees from nearly a dozen area businesses took a break from their award-winning work to celebrate their company as being a great place to work, often for a combination of appreciated benefits, meaningful collaboration and a welcoming culture, to name just a few highlights.
“These companies here today are raising the bar,” said Scott Schlange, senior vice president and commercial banking leader for presenting sponsor KeyBank. “Businesses that are here today have people within the business who said, ‘This is a business we want to be a part of.’”
After careful consideration of various criteria, the top three companies in the small, medium and large categories were revealed at the event. The program, put on in partnership with Best Companies Group, is open to private and public companies — either nonprofit or for-profit — with 15 or more employees that have been in business for a minimum of one year.
Three companies of the 14 awarded were also recognized during the event for their extra-mile efforts among five categories — top place for women, top place for millennials, most family-friendly company, most healthy company and top place for diversity, equity and inclusion — and when asked what their secrets to success were, representatives readily shared. The event was also supported by event venue sponsor Galaxy Event Center in Meridian and supporting sponsor WaFd Bank.
“Hats off to all the Top Companies in Treasure Valley winners. You are making bold moves and you should be proud,” Idaho Business Review publisher Cindy Suffa said.
For those leaders looking to make their company a Top Company in Treasure Valley contender, some words of wisdom were offered in a Q&A:
Words from Andersen Construction: “We really believe that education within our industry is the first place to start, because if everyone has more open minds, open hearts about things, then we’ll start attracting and retaining all different types of people.”
Words from Biome: “We didn’t want a place where there were cliques and gossip…it was something we were adamant about from the very beginning. This is a place where we work and we have fun and everybody’s treated the same.”
Words from Perkins Coie: “We look to do something not just to benefit the employee, but the family. (And) wellness is not just focused on physical health and welfare; it also focuses on your financial aspects (and) community involvement.”
“I couldn’t have imagined the inaugural event any better,” Suffa added. “The room was full, the energy was high, and the guests made some noise!”
