Meridian City Council has approved plans for The Village at Meridian to expand into a mixed-use property with the addition of 550 residential apartments at “The Bridge,” which will be five stories above 34,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. This project marks the final phase of development, and will allow The Village to increase its available square footage for new restaurants, retail and entertainment offerings.
According to Hugh Crawford, director of property management for CenterCal Properties, the addition of The Bridge was a part of The Village’s plan from the very beginning. Crawford said the additional residential component will be a win for both residents and the community, as it fits into CenterCal Properties’ strategy of “placemaking,” which emphasizes developing spaces that bring people together to shop, dine, work and live.
“People claimed there’s not enough housing, and we’re adding to that; we’re bringing a new residential opportunity where the community wants to be,” Crawford said. “Residents can step downstairs to multiple services and restaurants and retail right outside their door, and buy groceries within a walking distance.”
The luxury apartments will include full-service amenities, with a rooftop pool, sport courts and cafés, as well as a spa and gym. An indoor covered parking garage within the complex will ensure residential parking will not be competing with retail and restaurant parking.
According to Crawford, The Village is at 100% occupancy in both retail and restaurant space, making it the right time and place for the final expansion. The Village of Meridian opened about 10 years, and was under design and development for about 15 years. After The Bridge expansion is complete, The Village will have no room for additional residential buildings.
“When we’re done with this, The Village will be fully built out,” Crawford said. “It’s all been part of the master development plan.”
CenterCal expects to break ground on The Bridge this spring and intends to open in 2025. The expansion will be built out over a 24- to 30-month construction period.
